Canada: Quebec bid-rigging scandal voted year’s top story

A CNC News readers’ poll has shown Canada’s top story of 2012 was voted to be the ongoing bid-rigging scandal that has plagued Quebec for several months and recently caught the attention of national authorities. There is ongoing testimony into alleged conspiracies to inflate city contracts; three mayors have resigned due to the scandal, and various city employees have been suspended. While the Charbonneau commission will not release a full report until the fall of 2013, the commission has seized dozens of records pertaining to the case as well as conducted raids in various high-profile locations. Canada’s Competition Bureau has reportedly stepped in to begin its own investigation as well.
