Spain: CNC investigating alleged margin squeeze by independent travel agencies

According to a press release, the CNC, Spain’s antitrust authority, has initiated formal proceedings against GEA Grupo de Agencias Independientes for alleged anticompetitive practices. An initial investigation was made last September to look into allegations that the agency company had recommended a “boycott” on certain wholesalers that would prevent GEA’s independent travel agencies from selling tour packages and trips offered through those wholesalers. The practice is in violation of the article 1 of the nation’s Competition Act.
