Mexico: Commission resists legislative changes

Mexico’s competition agency issued a public letter to the lower chamber of Congress urging it to reject a bill approved by the Senate which aims to radically change the operation of the Commission. According to the letter the bill would blur the line that divides the investigative and decision-making branches of the Commission by giving one of the five commissioners powers to undertake and lead investigations from their inception; it would also erase the division between the executive secretariat, charged with prosecuting cases, as all technical directorates would have to report to each commissioner undertaking investigations. The letter was signed by all the heads in the Commission, making this a first.
