The Federal Communications Commission has approved for Dish Network to begin using its spectrum worth an estimated $9 billion. Dish won the use of this spectrum over rivaling companies and the win is hailed as a first step for Dish to effectively compete with major LTE wireless providers like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. Dish also has the option of selling the rights to its spectrum. Dish had bought the spectrum for $2.6 billion, though its value has more than tripled in the last five years.
