E.U.: General Court backs Commission in Belgian electric co fine

In a press release, the European Commission says it “welcomes” a recent judgment made by the General Court backing the Commission’s fine imposed on Electrabel for €20 million, a fine which the Belgian electric company appealed. Electrabel was accused of buying French energy company Compagnie Nationale du Rhone without first notifying or gaining approval from the European Commission, an obligation known as the “standstill obligation.” The fine was first imposed in 2009.
