U.S.: After more than two years, agricultural antitrust probe hits dead end

A probe initiated by the Justice Department more than two years ago into the agricultural industry of the nation has apparently come to a halt. The Justice Department began the investigation as a wide-spread look into the sector’s practices through workshops held around the U.S. which discussed a variety of antitrust issues. While not always explicitly named, the investigation took a hard look at Monsanto as the major agricultural company had allegedly abused its dominance and violated monopoly law with some of its products, including Roundup Ready soybeans. Monsanto has released a statement since hearing about the probe’s end, saying the company is “pleased…this issue is now behind us.”
