U.S.: Opened FBI files bring new insight to ’70s bid-rigging investigation into former Boston mayor
Newly-released FBI files from former Boston Mayor Kevin White allege that an individual in the running to earn a new contract with the city for his trash company bribed White with thousands of dollars to win the bid. The information is bringing new light to a decades-old case into a probe of the former mayor initiated in 1975. The individual in representation of the trash company gave Mayor White $5,000 with a promise to double the cash, according to the files. White was never charged despite the FBI investigation. The new insights into the inquiry were revealed thanks to MuckRock who posed the FBI files on the case. The files reveal information that begins from the bid-rigging investigation of 1975 and spans through to 1987, at the end of second investigation in which White allegedly told John Hancock life insurance company to give Boston University $4 million so the insurance company could win a development contract with Boston.
