The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced it will agree to let six mining companies combine into one to negotiate with SunWater, who is hoping to build the Nathan Dam in southwest Queensland in a $1.6 billion project. The mining companies have been allowed to collectively argue for the dam to be built, but will each individually have to prove that their respective mines would have access to the water the dam would provide. The six mining companies are Cuckatoo Coal, Cuesta Coal, MetroCoal, Peabody Energy Australia, QC Resource Investments, and Whitehaven Coal. According to reports, the idea to build the damn has been bounced-around the legislature for nearly a century.
