The Federal Trade Commission has approved of NRG Energy Inc’s deal to buy GenOn Energy Inc. The deal, however, still needs approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission as well as the New York Public Service Commission to pass. The deal was first announced last July for $1.94 billion. NRG and GenOn expect to close the deal early next year.
