Brazil: Sony/EMI merger meets surprising resistance

In what may be a surprised to those behind the acquisition of EMI by Sony, Brazilian competition authority Cade is reportedly blocking the deal from taking effect in the country despite green lights from other major antitrust authorities in nations involves. The European Union was another major authority to demand remedies in the merger, ruling that Sony needs to sell some of EMI’s European publishing catalogues for the deal to go through. Specifics were not reported on what remedies Cade may demand from Sony, however.
