Southeast Asia: Asean nations conclude antitrust authority meeting in China

The Department of Economic Planning Development has announced the nation’s antitrust watchdog, the Asean Experts Group on Competition, has concluded its tenth meeting in Gadong, China. Its purpose was to report on the progress of the Asean Economic Blueprint and Strategic Schedule on Competition Policy as well as the Asean-GIZ Project on Competition Policy and Law, which aims to coordinate the nations of the Asean member countries. Other projects were also under review, all focusing on the development and implementation of antitrust law in the involved countries. At present, only five nations of the Asean member states have antitrust law and policies in place, while the remaining nations rely on sectoral-level policies, though they are in reportedly in the process of drafting antitrust law.
