Vietnam: National Assembly calls for antitrust investigation into fuel sector

Deputy of the National Assembly Le Thi Nga has called upon the Vietnam Competition Authority to investigate the nation’s fuel management sector, arguing that businesses harm consumer interest. Nga cited that of the 12 wholesalers of fuel in the market, three held 90 percent of the market dominance: Petrolimex, Military Petroleum Co. and Saigon Petro, with the latter occupying 60 percent alone. Nga has said that the fuel companies have violated Article 13 of the Competition Law in raising prices at the same time as applying increased levels during price hikes.
