New Zealand: Commerce Commission broadens watch over telecommunications market after Vodafone/TelstraClear merger
In an extension of its monitoring of the telecommunications market, the Telecommunications Commission has announced it will also extend its eye over the fixed-to-mobile pricing market. The announcement comes in the wake of a recent approval given to Vodafone to buy TelstraClear, simultaneously acquiring fixed line services in addition to its mobile services. The Telecommunications Commission has said that their monitoring of the sector is a necessary part of the recent merger, which will “bring about major changes to the telecommunications sector.”
