The Italian Competition Authority has opened an investigation into whether Krat Foods Italia SRL’s sale to the Bolton Group of its Simmenthal unit poses a threat to competition in the preserved beef sector. The authority bases its concerns over the fact Kraft Food Italia and the Bolton Group have the majority of control over the market, and worries that the deal gives the Bolton Group too much bargaining power over smaller competitors.
