Australia/New Zealand: Commerce Act to provide greater co-operation between overseas competition authorities

The Commerce Act will increase co-operation between the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) and the New Zealand Commerce Commission (NZCC) over competition law issues in the trans-Tasman region. The Act attempts to harmonize competition law between businesses operating in Australia and New Zealand, to deal with ‘hardcore’ cartel conduct. The act allows the two watchdogs to share information and provide each other with investigative assistance.
