CNC investigates Mediapro’s exclusive deal with Real Sociedad de Futbol

Spain’s competition authority (CNC) began infringement proceedings against Mediapro for restricting contractual relations between football clubs and third party operators. A complaint filed by Real Sociedad de Fútbol (Real Sociedad) accused Mediapro of penalizing clubs for signing or considering signing over exclusive rights to broadcast their teams in the Spanish League and King’s Cup to other operators. Prima facie evidence showed Mediapro had indeed infringed the Spanish Competition Act, spurring the formal investigation.
