CCP asks Punjab government to lift ban on sugar mills

The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has issued a policy note to Punjab, asking the government to lift a ban on sugar mill growth to allow for new entrants. The 2006 ban prohibits building new sugar mills and expanding existing ones. The CCP observed that such a restriction on the industry may lead to diminished production, quota allocation, and price-fixing.
