After receiving voluntary assurances from Clear Channel and JCDecaux, the U.K. Office of Fair Trading has closed its investigation into outdoor advertising. The companies have agreed not to enforce certain provisions contained in their street furniture advertising contracts with Local Authorities. The assurances will make it easier for rivals to compete for advertising.
Clear Channel and JCDecaux will not enforce exclusivity clauses for advertising on different types of street furniture in locations more than 25 meters from existing sites, nor will they enforce tacit renewal clauses. Furthermore, the companies have agreed not to proactively seek extensions, instead letting contracts go out to tender.
