Ballast Nedam’s original € 14.5 M fine now reduced to € 1.5 M

In response to a provisional ruling by the Netherlands Trade and Industry Appeals Tribunal, the Netherlands Competition Authority (NMa) has decided to reduce Ballast Nedam’s fine to 1.5 million euros. Ballast Nedam, a Dutch construction and engineering company, was fined 14.5 million euros in 2003 for violations of the competition law from 1998 to 2001. The most recent reduction is the second time the original fine was scaled back: in 2006, the fine was reduced to 7.9 million euros. The Trade and Industry Appeals Tribunal will review the NMa’s reduction and then issue a final ruling.
