Bahrain’s new consumer protection law

The Shura Council has approved a new consumer protection law for Bahrain. Approval had been held up by a contentious provision on the duties of inspectors.

    The Council agreed to grant the Industry and Commerce Ministry the right to assign inspectors to scrutinize documents on new products entering the market. Inspectors also will inspect shops and businesses to check the products currently stocked. Finally, some inspectors have the right to take offending businesses to court, based on substantial evidence or random inspections.
