Maxiprest’s R9.356 million fine confirmed by Competition Tribunal

South Africa’s Competition Tribunal has confirmed Maxiprest Tyres’ R9.356 million fine for price-fixing, market division, and collusive tendering. The Competition Commission’s investigation, prompted by Auto and Truck Tyres’ leniency application in 2007, found that Maxiprest had engaged in the conduct from 2002 to 2007.

    The Commission also found that Bridgestone had engaged in resale price maintenance of Bridgestone and Firestone tires. Bridgestone has undertaking to supply Auto and Truck Tyres on the same basis as other independent dealers.
