Hitachi executive pleads guilty to bid-rigging optical disk drives sold to HP

Woo Jin Yang, Senior Sales Manager for Hitachi-LG Data Storage, has agreed to plead guilty for his role in bid-rigging conspiracies for the sale of optical disk drives to Hewlett-Packard. From August 2006 and June 2009, Yang and his co-conspirators set bidding strategies and prices for optical disk drive procurement events hosted by HP.

    Yang has agreed to serve six months in prison and pay a $25,000 criminal fine. Yang will also cooperate with the DOJ’s ongoing investigation into the optical disk drive industry. Yang is the fourth individual to be charged by the DOJ; one company, HLDS, pleaded guilty in November 2011.
