The Investigations Division of the National Competition Commission (CNC) has opened formal proceedings against Ionmed Esterilización for its exclusivity arrangements. The investigation follows a complaint filed by Mevion Technology.
Mevion alleges that Ionmed Esterilización abused its dominance in the market for industrial sterilization services using electron beam technology and the market for polymeric materials processing. The CNC will probe client contracts that provided for a five-year exclusivity period; the exclusive contracts, Mevion claims, deterred entry by Mevion and other new competitors.
