Private healthcare market referred to Competition Commission

The OFT has referred the private healthcare market in the United Kingdom to the Competition Commission. The referral follows the OFT’s public consultation on the findings of its December 2011 market study. As grounds for its decision, the OFT points to a lack of transparency when it comes to the quality and costs of private healthcare; a high concentration of providers, and; significant barriers to new entrants.
