New “Cabinet of Committee on Competition” proposed by Ministry of Corporate Affairs
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs seeks to create a Cabinet Committee on Competition (CCC). The Competition Commission of India is to report to the CCC. The Hindustan Times reports that the CCC is “to promote fair competition among firms while nurturing the smaller companies and those related to agriculture-marketing societies. The move is also expected to ease supply-side constraints and help in controlling rising inflation in the long run.”
The CCC is subject to Cabinet approval. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs is also pursuing the establishment of an advisory committee that would help implement the National Competition Policy. This committee is to be supervised by corporate affairs minister M. Veerappa Moily.
