Austria’s competition authority has opposed Hutchison Whampoa’s 1.3 billion euro proposed acquisition of France Telecom’s Orange Austria. Hutchison owns 3 Austria, Orange Austria’s rival. The watchdog’s opposition to the deal stems from Hutchison’s plan to sell Yesss (Orange Austria’s discount subsidiary) to Telekom Austria. The sale would increase Telekom Austria’s market share to 47 percent, from 42 percent.
