Mediapro and Prisa TV reported to the CNC for discrimination and anticompetitive conduct
Spain’s main regional cable operators, including Euskaltel and Telecable, have reported Mediapro and Prisa TV to the CNC for discrimination and anticompetitive conduct. They claim that the new marketing models of televised football rights favors other pay-TV operators. A few days before the start of the 2011 football season, Mediapro announced that access to pay per view content was to be transferred from Gol TV to the Pass Football channel created by Prisa. Pass Football was then sold to cable operators at a fixed price or a discount to those that had more customers, thereby favoring other operators like Telfónica.
