Competition Commission asked to address monopolistic tendences in Gauteng liquor trade

The Gauteng Department of Economic Development has approached the Competition Commission to address monopolistic tendencies in the liquor trade. The Department has published a liquor bill that is intended to help smaller businesses compete with large retailers. The Gauteng Liquor Board and the Competition Commission are currently in talks about the liquor market, especially issues related to liquor license applications of major retailers like Woolworths, Checkers, and Massmart.
