Competition Commission’s provisional findings raise anticompetitive concerns with Anglo American-Lafarge joint venture

The U.K. Competition Commission has announced its provisional findings on the Anglo American-Lafarge joint venture. In its statement, the commission voiced concerns with the venture’s potential effects on competition in the supply of cement and construction aggregates. The proposed venture would help Anglo American and Lafarge weather slowing construction and cement demand by creating £1.8 billion in sales with cost savings of £60 millon a year.
