Paul Hastings Strengthens Antitrust Practice With Partner Hire in London and Brussels

Paul Hastings has brought in Sally Evans as a partner in its antitrust practice, strengthening its presence in both London and Brussels. Evans, who joins from Kirkland & Ellis, had been with the US firm for nine years at its London office. Before that, she built her career at Linklaters and Freshfields, working across both London and Brussels. According to a statement, her arrival highlights the firm’s commitment to competition law in Europe.

    Evans specializes in antitrust investigations, merger control, foreign investment screening, and compliance matters, particularly those connected to cross-border transactions. Per a statement, she has advised on deals such as Thoma Bravo’s $12.3 billion take-private of HR software provider Dayforce, Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC’s minority stake in Messer Group, and Triton Partners’ acquisition of Bosch Group’s security and communications technology business.

    Her move marks another departure from Kirkland’s City team, which has faced sustained pressure since August 2023, when star debt finance partner Neel Sachdev defected to Paul Weiss with a team of lawyers. In recent months, the firm has also seen the exits of restructuring partner Kon Asimacopoulos to Sullivan & Cromwell and tax partner Sam Trowbridge to Baker McKenzie.

    Paul Hastings chair Frank Lopez said Evans will provide “further momentum to [its] global antitrust practice,” describing the practice as “essential to winning and executing M&A mandates at the top of the market.” The hire follows recent additions to the team worldwide, including Josh Soven in Washington DC from Paul Weiss and Stephen McIntyre in Los Angeles from O’Melveny.
