Baker McKenzie Welcomes Back Former DOJ Antitrust Official

Baker McKenzie has rehired Mark Hamer following his nearly yearlong tenure helping oversee the US Justice Department’s antitrust division, the firm announced Monday.

    Hamer, who joined the Department of Justice in March 2025 as a deputy assistant attorney general, will return to Baker McKenzie as a partner in its Washington, DC, office. During his time at the DOJ, he played a central role in managing the agency’s civil antitrust enforcement efforts, according to Bloomberg.

    While serving in the antitrust division, Hamer was responsible for leading the department’s civil enforcement program and overseeing what the firm described as the largest civil antitrust litigation portfolio in the DOJ’s history. His work involved supervising major competition cases and guiding enforcement strategy at a time of heightened regulatory scrutiny, per Bloomberg.

    Hamer’s return marks a continuation of his long-standing relationship with Baker McKenzie, where he previously practiced before entering government service.
