Latham Expands Antitrust Practice With Paris Partner Hire

Levy will join the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice and advise clients on merger control, investigations and competition litigation, according to a Sept. 19 announcement from Latham & Watkins distributed by PR Newswire Asia.

The appointment adds a lawyer with experience handling merger filings before the European Commission, France’s competition regulator and other authorities around the world, according to the announcement. Levy has also worked on antitrust investigations and damages claims arising from competition cases. His sector experience includes aerospace and defense, consumer products and industrial businesses.

Latham said the hire is intended to deepen its competition-law capabilities in Paris and across Europe. Thomas Margenet-Baudry, managing partner of the firm’s Paris office, said in the announcement that Levy’s experience in French and cross-border antitrust matters complements the firm’s existing transactional and regulatory practices.

The move comes as competition and other regulatory reviews play a larger role in corporate transactions, with major deals potentially requiring scrutiny from authorities in several countries. Adrien Giraud, an antitrust and competition partner at Latham in Paris, said Levy brings experience spanning merger control, foreign-investment screening, antitrust investigations, litigation and state-aid matters.

Lawrence Buterman, global chair of Latham’s Antitrust & Competition Practice, said the addition would bolster a practice that coordinates transaction and litigation work across the US, Europe and Asia, according to the release.

Levy said in the announcement that competition regulators are becoming more active and increasingly coordinating their work across jurisdictions. He said Latham’s international network would provide an opportunity to advise clients on complex matters spanning multiple markets.

Levy joins Latham from Hogan Lovells Cadwalader, according to the PR Newswire Asia release. He earned a master’s degree in mathematics from École Normale Supérieure de Lyon, a master’s degree in European business law from Paris Panthéon-Assas University and an LL.M. from New York University School of Law. He is admitted to practice law in Paris and New York.

Latham described its competition practice as operating across the US, Europe and Asia, advising clients on transactions, cartel investigations and disputes. The firm said its Paris and Brussels competition teams hold top-tier rankings in legal-industry directories.
