Argentina’s National Commission for the Defense of Competition has informed the food company Molinos Rio de la Plata that it will have to part with its Vizzolini brand of noodles to “ensure competition”.
The determination to demand the sale of Vizzolini (acquired by Bonafide, from the Empresas Carozzi business group) is the product of an analysis conducted by the CNDC after Molinos bought Vizzolini from rival Mondelez. The agency determined that it was an appropriate time for the entry of a new competitor in the dry pasta market. “In this way, Molinos Rio de la Plata breaks off the Vizzolini brand, with the aim of ensuring competition in the dry pasta market and a positive impact for consumers,” the Commerce Secretary said.
“In the analysis carried out by the CNDC it was found that Molinos had raised the prices of some brands […] With this measure we are restoring a brand so that there are more options for consumers …”, said Esteban Greco, president of the CNDC.
