Asia/Australia: Jetstar/Qantas earn approval to jointly increase service to Asia
According to reports, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has approved for Qantas Airlines to initiate cooperative business with Jetstar operations in various nations including Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Japan and, eventually, Hong Kong. The joint venture would include both freight and passenger services. In an ACCC statement, the proposal is seen to likely result in “public benefits” by increasing the number of flights and destinations to Asia. The deal has been named the Jetstar Joint Venture Coordination Agreement and ACCC’s approval will allow the two airlines to coordinate on various aspects of their business including scheduling, pricing, marketing and customer service.
