Australia: ACCC to probe wholesale gas market

The competition watchdog has been ordered by the federal government to investigate whether insufficient competition in the wholesale gas market is driving up prices.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Monday said the 12-month public inquiry would examine the structure of processing, transportation, storage and marketing segments of the gas industry in eastern and southern Australia.

The inquiry will not cover the retail market.
