Australia: Energy prices higher than necessary, says ACCC

ACCC chairman Rod Sims made a statement Wednesday declaring the nation’s electricity bills are higher than necessary, calling for a regulation overhaul to solve the issue. Further, Sims argued that the current rules that govern prices are dysfunctional due to electrical network companies having too much power in setting prices, adding that the Australian Energy Regulator has unfairly taken fault for the situation. Sims made the statements at the annual conference of the Energy Users Associations.
