Australia: Queensland Competition Authority sued for mispricing electricity tax

The Queensland Competition Authority has found itself on the other end of electricity conflicts as Origin Energy has filed a claim against the antitrust suit alleging the body did not consider production costs when setting tariffs for the year, a determination made for 2012-2013 that was released last May. The Supreme Court will hear the case, which claims that the QCA “overlooked” power purchase agreements and the price of internal generators. Earlier this year, Origin had increased its own tariff over government levels, then reduced it after receiving criticism.
