Australia: Virgin/Skywest deal approved, bid for Tiger Airways still on hold

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission has announced its approval of Virgin Australia’s takeover of Skywest, which operates the western region of Australia. According to the ACCC, the airlines only compete on one route, thus the merger is unlikely to negatively impact competition. The authority however maintained that it has not yet reached a decision on Virgin Australia’s bid to buy a majority stake of 60s percent in Tiger Airways Australia.
