Austria: Commission wary of Hutchison-Orange deal

The European Commission has expressed concerns that the planned 1.3 billion euro deal put forward by Hutchison for France Telecom’s Orange Austria, would eliminate one of Austria’s four main telecom providers. Joaquin Almunia, the VP of the EC announced “We have formally raised objections regarding this proposed merger because of risks that higher concentration in Austria might entail.”
