Brazil: CADE proves stronger than steel with new probe

Brazil’s antitrust regulator CADE announced an investigation into the nation’s leading steelmaker Aperam, a division of ArcelorMittal, over complaints of abuse of dominance. Reports say stainless steel company Aperam is taking advantage of its market strength throughout South America, prompting the watchdog to open proceedings against the company to probe the validity of these complaints. ArcelorMittal is based in Luxembourg. Reports say a distributor first issued the complaints against the steel giant, though further details were not disclosed.
