Brazil: Metro cartel probe could dent job market

 |  November 13, 2013

Reports say the ongoing investigation into a suspected metro cartel could harm the nation’s job market, according to metro engineers and architects association Aeamesp.

Companies in two major cities are accused of colluding to rig bidding for government contracts. France-based Alstrom and Canada-based Bombardier are among the companies currently being probed.

According to Aeamesp, should antitrust regulator CADE decide to temporarily prevent the companies from bidding in future contracts, there would be a significant negative impact on Brazil’s job market and many would be left out of work.

The workers’ group also advised against outsourcing train manufacturing.
