Bulgaria: Bill envisions new competition watchdog

Bulgarian Movement for Rights and Freedoms liberal party member Yordan Tsonev has reportedly submitted proposed legislation that would combine the nation’s two competition and consumer watchdogs into one.

    Reports say the bill suggests merging the Commission on Protection of Competition and the Commission for Consumer Protection and consolidating their powers. Tsonev also recommended that the new body be overseen by a panel of seven members, as is done at the competition regulator.

    The legislation remains subject to Parliament’s passing.
