Canada: Cable giant acquires US assets for $1.2B

Canadian cable conglomerate Shaw Communications is reportedly set to acquire US-based ViaWest, a $1.2 billion takeover that will expand Shaw’s data center operations.

    The western Canadian cable giant announced its merger plans Thursday, noting that ViaWest will continue to operate as an independent subsidiary.

    The move will allow Shaw to expand its data center and cloud technology services throughout western Canada, the company said.

    Shaw will complete the acquisition of ViaWest from its current owner, Oak Hill Capital Partners.
