Canada: Gold miner strikes easy buyout review

 |  January 30, 2014

Reports say Canada’s gold miner Goldcorp will not likely face antitrust hurdles in its acquisition of rival miner Osisko Mining.

Canada’s Competition Bureau will likely clear the $2.3 billion buyout without concessions, Goldcorp said Thursday, declaring that the company has received “strong support” for the merger from Osisko shareholders.

Goldcorp also said the Bureau has granted an advance certificate to clear the merger.

Despite the optimistic news, Osisko has earlier slammed the acquisition as “opportunistic” and advised its shareholders to reject the deal.
