Canada: Montreal Mayor quits amid bid-rigging scandal

Montreal Mayor Gerald Tremblay has officially resigned from his post. The announcement, made Monday, comes in the midst of an ongoing investigation into whether Tremblay rigged bids in construction projects. While the disgraced mayor accepted “full responsibility” for the violations that occurred, he maintained that he “never betrayed” the citizens of Montreal. The following day, the Quebec anti-corruption squad raided engineering-consulting firms in Laval as part of the ongoing investigation.
