Canada: Multi-billion telecom merger leads to rearranging of market

Canada’s Competition Bureau has formally approved for Corus Entertainment Inc. to fully acquire Teletoon and other assets from Astral Media Inc. The transaction was part of a concessions deal for the Bureau to approve of a $3.38 billion merger between Astral and BCE Inc., resulting in the combination of two of the biggest TV and radio conglomerates in Canada. The deal between Corus and Astral to acquire Teletoon remains subject to approval by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission.
