CCM asks whether preferred optometry service providers in insurance scheme is anticompetitive

The Competition Commission of Mauritius (“CCM”) has opened a probe into the provision of medical/health insurance by BAI Co. Ltd. and the administration of medical/health insurance schemes by Momentum. The investigation seeks to determine whether having a list of preferred optometry service providers in an insurance scheme impedes competition among other providers. Executive Director Dr. Sean Ennis believes that the actions of BAI and Momentum amount to a breach of the monopoly provisions under Section 46 of the Competition Act 2007.
