Chile: New charges of collusion presented against drug-store chains

 |  March 28, 2017

Chile’s National Economic Prosecutor (FNE) has said it received a new complaint regarding possible instances of collusion between major drug-store chains, this time affecting the Valdivia region. The complaint, presented by the Movimiento Autónomo Regional de Los Rios (Los Rios Autonomous Regional Movement), has sought to bring attention to this problem, which they claim affects several communal areas.

Miguel Ángel Carrasco, a physician and member of the Los Ríos movement, explained that their suspicions were raised due to the minimal difference in prices found among the most common medications used by Chilean consumers. The group has gathered and presented the FNE with data collected from communal villages in the Valdivia and Union regions, with price comparisons for various brands of medication, including anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety medication.
