China: NDRC boosts controversial official

    State-run People’s Daily announced the promotion of Xu Kunlin to director of the NDRC’s pricing unit as of November, according to reports. Xu was previous the director-general of the unit.

    While reports say experts had predicted the promotion for some time, Xu’s new position comes as he faces criticism from foreign officials and corporations for alleged bias in antitrust investigations.

    Xu has denied the allegations.

    In his leader inauguration speech, delivered last Friday, the official vowed to conduct “orderly price reform and give consumers more right to choose.”
