Colombia: Freight-haulers look to Government to re-establish free market

The Colombian Federation of Cargo Transport and Logistics (COLFECAR) has appealed to Colombia’s Government, demanding that a free market be established in this sector, to be guided by non-compulsory operating reference prices.

    Juan Carlos Rodríguez Muñoz, CEO of COLFECAR, pointed out that the current policy tool, called the Efficiency Cost System (SICE TAC) has once again become a “price-chart for freights”, which had repealed in 2011.

    Mr. Rodríguez added that the increases in operational costs for freight transportation in September continue to worry the companies in the sector; fuel increased by more than 40%, tolls 11% and tires over 5%, which generates pressures for their financial statements.

    “When the government decided to repeal the” freight chart “, it replaced it with supervised freedom, which introduced the Reference Operational Costs as a support mechanism.
